Blizzard announced yet another game in development. What exactly we’ll be seeing next to Wrath of the Lich King, Starcraft 2 and Diablo III remains to be seen though. Could it be a newly founded franchise or a new MMO?
We already were aware of Starcraft II and the expansion to World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, for quite some time now. Just a couple of days ago to that got added the development of Diablo III with its announcement during the worldwide invitional, one more surprise was up for us though.
A fourth game, what shall it be? Nothing has been stated yet in regards to that. Will it be something to follow up in the warcraft series or in the starcraft series? Who knows, I greatly doubt the latter though with Starcraft II still being in development and all.
Going forth in the warcraft series might not be all the unlogical, it’s been a while after all since the release of WC3, perhaps it’s time for a 4th version of warcraft (excluding WoW). I bet the fans of the RTS games of the warcraft franchise would be all to eager for one, especially as the diablo and SC fans are already getting their piece of the cake.
The idea of another MMO isn’t excluded either according to a recent interview with Gamasutra, so perhaps it will be an MMO. Especially as Blizzard has been hiring for a next-gen MMO that wouldn’t even be all too weird of an idea.
In case it will be an MMO though the whens and whats of it are still remained in mystery, what should we expect from it? A World of Starcraft perhaps? The rumors (and desires) around it have been going around the net for quite some time, it’d really fit the upcoming shift from fantasy mmo’s to more and more sci-fi related ones. Whether Blizzard will go along with that or not by picking up a starcraft MMO is currently unknown, at least to public.
Once more even there it could be a totally new franchise, Blizzard has hinter that they’ll definitely be releasing one at some point in time so that might be the reason why they’re still holding off with announcing what it’d be about. Not wanting to risk turning down people in an early stage of development.

I hope it is going to be Warcraft IV. I mean, Blizzard got almost everything from Warcraft implemented in World of Warcraft.
It is about time that something new is added to the Warcraft story.

True, I definitely wouldn’t see them making a World of Warcraft 2 for example. If anything would be done to that game it’s probably a graphics revamp one day to bring it up, but definitely not an entirely new game.
Warcraft IV would really complete that working on their old franchises feeling. Although I must admit a new franchise as possibility sounds even more interesting to me, simply because it could be something entirely new and “never seen before” (as much as that still applies in 2008).
