In the words of senior community manager Katie, or perhaps better known as Khatie within the community, “we need to start ramping beta up very soon and start adding big numbers”. That’s something which definitely sounds like things are going in the right direction.
When exactly the big numbers will be added hasn’t been said, also no details have been given on exactly how big it’s going to be. Should we be thinking about 3 figure amounts here, 4 figures or perhaps even 5 figures? But it has been said that in these first weeks it’ll be starting out with dozens, ramping up after that.
Another thing which probably also is on everybody’s mind is whether it’ll come before Stargate Worlds is presented at comic-con or after, seeing as to how the testers themselves which will be invited will be under NDA and thus not allowed to state whether things already started or not it’s having to wait for an official announcement.
There’s still not too much new information on the game so far though, a recent developer chat did bring up several new points but nothing major. Probably going to have to wait till comic-con for that or in the worst case GC Leipzig.
One of the topics brought up during the developer chat was gold farming, a thing on everybody’s mind. Although not all people interpret gold farming as the same thing, so it’s uncertain whether the answer given is oriented at real money trade or just actual ingame gold farming.
I am personally not a fan of gold farming; I think it breaks the economy of the game and spoils the fun for people working hard to level their own game. I am recommending that we put measures in place to make it difficult for farmers, as well as provide services to make the need for gold farmers non-existent! The team supports me in this, which is awesome.
In case they just talk about gold farming in general it appears like they’re going to give us the opportunity to simply play without having to worry about cash that much. On the other hand in case they were talking about RMT the “providing services to make the need for gold farmers non-existent” sounds a lot like placing in an item mall. So that’s a question which still leaves us in doubt for now I suppose.
Another point of interest is PvP, which was already anounced before not to be ‘included’ at launch and later confirmed to merely mean there wouldn’t be anything more to PvP than just the option to attack each other.
After launch they’re planning to let PvP grow out, the systems for it are being designed and will roll out over time. Little is said though whether there’ll be a focus on world PvP or whether it’s going to be the boring type of WoW PvP, instanced and without meaning except farming marks.
So, this is an excellent question and I promise we will tell you the answer prior to launch but, for now, I want to tell you guys that we are going to release in a revolutionary way. Instead of level cap and then waiting 2 years for an expansion, we will try something new so you have a lot to look forward to.
Leval cap and waiting 2 years for expansion no? Mmh, what then shall we be seeing in Stargate Worlds. Once more something on which they do not really say a lot, it’s the typical kind of answering which in reality just doesn’t give an answer to anything at all.
Once beta becomes public or launch is there I bet it’ll all become clear, but seeing as to how it’s an RPG game I think there’ll probably be a level cap in some form or another no matter how they attempt to disguise it.
A rather dissapointing thing is to hear that currently there is no support for apostrophes in names of characters. I hope that’s going to be getting a second look as apostrophes are such a major part of the naming in Stargate, just think about the Goa’Uld and Tok’ra as races, Teal’c and Bra’tac as familiar names and Hak’tyl, K’Tau and Kresh’ta as planet names.
Without the apostrophe we’d just be seeing Goauld, Tokra, Tealc, Bratac, Haktyl, Ktau, Kreshta. It simply looks so much less stargate-y.
