YouTube to introduce full length video?

Last touched on Wednesday, Jun 25, 2008

Revenue wise YouTube doesn’t do well for Google according to CEO Eric Schmidt, they just can’t figure out how to make profit out of it, the introduction of Hulu didn’t make it much better. YouTube is up for a change, but what.

Jumping along the success of Hulu might do them well, full featured movies on demand with income generated through advertisement. Cnet reports this possibility as well showing off one of the full feature films currently added to YouTube after the recent addition of this feature.

One thing is clear, Hulu’s success has shown that video on demand without cost is welcomed by the community and can draw in millions of viewers. YouTube which already draws in over 71 million unique viewers a month this way could offer a lot for the movie industry.

A perfect medium for full feature film to be watched with income supported by ads. As the technology is there and definitely the demand being present it’s going to depend on what Google decides and whether the industry decides to take on such a move.

Even though the relations between the recording companies and YouTube haven’t always been as well due to it being used as free hosting for pirated material for so long I’m sure they can see it through the fingers when they can cash in on it themselves.

There’s probably one thing we can say for certain, Google will probably not keep up backing something which is never going to make profit. What kind of move this’ll be is yet to be announced but I definitely wouldn’t be surprised to one day be watching my favorite movies and series from YouTube.
