Attack of the clones beats back cancer

Last touched on Monday, Jun 23, 2008

Boosting ones own immune system with billions of copies from a single immune cell in order to battle back cancer, the potential replacement of chemotherapy or surgery?

With 5 billion T-Cells cloned in a labaratory setting out of a single cell the cancer in a patient was able to be kept in remission for over 2 years according to a report published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Will using cloned immune cells be the treatment of the future? Unfortunately it’s still way too early to say anything about that, after all it’s just been a single patient. There have been several other patients undergone the same treatment as well but results on that aren’t available yet.

It’s a nice idea though to be able to battle cancer like this through a boost of a patient’s own immune system. With it just being a single case so far which gave promising results doctors remain cautious in their enthusiasm.

Have your say

Like many others I'm a slave to modern society dominated by mass media, I can be hooked on the latest series for months without missing a single episode or simply having to see a certain movie.

And if you thought music wouldn't be included there, you're dead wrong! Practically non stop I listen to music from various artists, I just can't stand the silence anymore.
