Homosexuality has always been a rather touchy subject amongst many civilizations, slowly more and more evidence of a biological foundation is starting to stack up. Recent Swedish findings add to the presumption that the difference lies within our brains.
Ever since in the early 90’s when LeVay (not to be confused with LaVay) came forth with his findings of differences in the hypothalamus of straight and gay men a lot of research has been done in the differences between the brains of homosexuals and heterosexuals.
Some of the latest findings by Swedish scientists at the Karolinska institute have shown some new interesting results:
- Heterosexual male brains have a slightly larger right hemisphere
- Homosexual women have asymmetrical brains like heterosexual men
- Homosexual men have symmetrical brains like heterosexual women
- Heterosexual women have symmetrical brains
Even down to the amount of nerves connecting the two hemispheres those in homosexual men are more like those of heterosexual women.
An interesting find with this is that it’s not just sexual preference but other regions look like they might be more feminized in gay males. Well, that explains a lot taking a look at several gay celebs on the telli here, although those aren’t really representative for the general population.
