As a revolutionary method of spreading real television content for absolutely nothing in return on the web, does hulu have what it takes to have a real impact.
Several months ago Hulu launched to the public and offered exactly that where for example Joost failed, content. There’s a wide variety on shows which is available on Hulu including popular sitcoms as American Dad, The Simpsons and Family Guy but also series as Heroes and House are available to watch.
What does such a system cost? Well, the best thing about hulu is that it’s absolutely free! In exchange there are ads placed every 10 minutes or so during the viewing but it’s just a single ad taking up around 20 seconds, not too shabby.
Unfortunately Hulu isn’t too friendly to people outside of the USA as it’s content is still restricted. There’s a workaround to this problem though, the guys at gHacks were quick enough to point this out to us. All you need to use for it to work is a little application entitled hotspot shield.
But also that doesn’t come without additional problems, it only works in 32 bits versions of windows. Try to install it within a 64 bit version and you end up with a nasty error, so in order to bypass this issue I was forced to install a virtual 32 bit system for the sole purpose of watching hulu through hotspot shield.
Perhaps not the most welcome solution, but it works. One thing which would make hulu so much better though? Just open up the content for the entire world, no restrictions. Till then it might be nice within the US, but in the rest of the world it’s probably not going to get that many followers.
