Youtube says no to censorship

Last touched on Thursday, May 22, 2008

U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman ’suggests’ Google to take down Islam terrorist propaganda from its video hosting service YouTube. For the sake of free speech Google declined, leaving Lieberman in the cold.

With the following Joe Lieberman tried to have Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, take down the propaganda spread by Islamist terrorist organizations:

“Islamist terrorist organizations use YouTube to disseminate their propaganda, enlist followers and provide weapons training…YouTube also, unwittingly, permits Islamist terrorist groups to maintain an active, pervasive and amplified voice, despite military setbacks or successful operations by the law enforcement and intelligence communities.”

Just have to love how Lieberman just focusses on Islamist terrorist organizations and their propaganda, as if there’s no other hate spreading propaganda out there including at times coming directly from US soil. Perhaps Lieberman got something specific going on against the Islam community?

A good thing to see though that his request got denied, censorship might work in China but the rest of the world frowns upon it. Freedom of speech is a thing which we take dearly and if I’m not mistaking the US themselves try to promote in the countries where they have soldiers stationed.

And what would happen the moment islam propaganda got taken down? We remain with just western propaganda on YouTube? Now what sort of message would that give out to the rest of the world, I’m pretty sure it can’t be a good one.
