Breaking the silence

Relatively quiet, I suppose that’s the best way to describe my posting activity on Slevi lately. To be quite frank not much has been happening on here, but it’s definitely not being forgotten! To tell the truth lately I’ve just been spending quite a bit of time playing around with various things of which one does involve Slevi.

About nine months ago was a glorious day for this blog, breaking lose from that horrific previous design being green, plain and terribly dull. I was really pleased with the way I headed but now nine months later I have to say there are some points which definitely could require some attention.

Slowly these points went piling up and I decided to do something about it, time for a change! I know it’s relatively quick and definitely sooner than expected for me to be working on a new design for my blog as I expected it to last till late 2008 but fate apparently had a different idea in mind.

So far I have various things in mind on where to improve, let’s quickly go through several of those to give a bit of an idea on where we’ll be heading.

  • Less bytes to be eaten up - Currently the many images take up around 1mb in size, no issue on a cable connection but for those on dial up or when downloading the loading time of the site can run up quite a bit. In order to get passed this and make sure the site will load quick and fluently I’m going for a less graphic design but still giving it a similar feeling.
  • More white - Or perhaps I should be saying any white as currently there is practically none at all, definitely on a screen less bright many of the details simply end up appearing to be pure black.
  • Increased readability - Small fonts are nice to stick a lot of text within a small area, but readability definitely suffers from it. To counter this I have decided to increase the size of the fonts which I will be using by 2 or 4 points for the most common elements.
  • Modular - With that I’m aiming at creating a design in which separate elements can easily be altered in design or completely replaced without truly affecting the overall design. You could think of things as minor as creating custom designs for the major holidays and seasons but it definitely won’t stop just there.

There’s still quite a lot to do though, most likely going to be a matter of several weeks till I’ve worked through the complete design and then there’s still the requirement of porting it ready for use with wordpress.

Have your say

Like many others I'm a slave to modern society dominated by mass media, I can be hooked on the latest series for months without missing a single episode or simply having to see a certain movie.

And if you thought music wouldn't be included there, you're dead wrong! Practically non stop I listen to music from various artists, I just can't stand the silence anymore.
