833_original Of course as one of the millions who enjoys Stargate and an avid fan of MMO games I simply couldn’t have missed out on Stargate Worlds, first come across the concept of the game in early 2006 as IGN announced it and recently signed up for potential beta participation.

With over 75k beta registrations and still counting though the chances are of course looking slim on getting in but of course we can always keep our hopes up right? Perhaps due to some stroke of luck I might actually get into it.

When exactly the beta is off for a start though, only god knows I suppose. So far no date has been given for neither closed nor open beta, also no information has been disclosed on how many positions we shall be seeing for the closed beta.

796_original So far there isn’t much of ingame material yet, there are some glimpses to be found on the dev profiles but outside of that it are mainly mockups, concept art and the word of the devs. As the usual statement from western MMO’s in development these days it promises to be the usual… uhm I meant bigger, better and more badass than the rest.

Unfortunately that’s something which is simply mentioned too much to be impressed by on itself. One of the things which they did say though is that they’re going to get rid of the concept of tanker, healer and DPS’er and instead have every class basically be capable of fighting, one better than the other and healing would get a more realistic approach than a magical light surrounding somebody from a great distance through which health is replenished.

As tactics would play a more important role and getting hit would hurt a lot more than in your average game tanking is gone out of the way with as well. Even in PvP a low level might be able to kill a high level character in case that one would be fooling around and running in the open.

772_original How well this works out though is to be seen ingame, so far we’ve seen nothing about it in trailers and to be quite frank it’s not the first MMO which I’ve seen to say that tanking would be get rid of although in the end you could still do so with the right equipment and stat distribution.

The environment based on the mockups so far appear to becoming well varied on the other hand, definitely giving in to the feeling of traveling from world to world as seen in the show. Now let’s hope to see some screens pop up of those environments populated with either the big, bad and evil or some new civilizations for us to be encountered ingame.

Have your say
