Wordpress 2.5 Upgrade

About a week ago Wordpress finally came with their latest release. Seeing as to how they ended up skipping 2.4 it was a while since I installed the previous version, I even skipped the sub-versions making it pretty much the 2.3 release from back in September if I’m not mistaking which I was running. Since Technorati decided to stop indexing all those which didn’t have an up to date Wordpress I thought, what the heck, let’s just do that upgrade then if it pleases them.

The updating process as usual was a piece of cake again, of course remember to always backup up front and in case you’re not sure whether you did it right well simply make an additional backup just to be sure. After that just drag and drop the files onto your server in your favorite FTP client and you’re halfway there already. As you open up your admin interface you’ll instantly get the upgrade screen pop up and all which is left for you to do is click the link and get a cup of tea.

When the admin interface popped up one thing was hard to ignore, it all changed drastically. Finally if I might say, the old one has been there for such a long time and to be quite frank… it was getting old. This new one looks a lot more clean although I must say that it’s a bit unsatisfying to see that the width used isn’t 100%.

I haven’t really gotten the chance to go through all features of Wordpress 2.5 but one of the things which does stick out well for me is the instant plugin update which you can do directly from within the plugin page. Usually I am quite lazy with updating plugins as it’d cost about 10 minutes or something at least, but with this it’s done within a matter of seconds!

The only plugin which gave an issue was Alex King’s popularity contest but after digging on the net for a few seconds the solution was found:

Open popularity-contest.php and scroll down to line 59. Replace require(’../../wp-blog-header.php’); with require(’../wp-blog-header.php’);

Whilst quickly browsing through the rest of Slevi I didn’t encounter any issues so I suppose the rest is working well, otherwise I’ll be sure to get around fixing it soon. Now let’s head on for the wait for Wordpress 2.6, probably just a couple of months away!

Have your say

Like many others I'm a slave to modern society dominated by mass media, I can be hooked on the latest series for months without missing a single episode or simply having to see a certain movie.

And if you thought music wouldn't be included there, you're dead wrong! Practically non stop I listen to music from various artists, I just can't stand the silence anymore.
