Spotted my next new toy?

pn4cddIt’s been nearly three years already that I’ve been using my current laptop, not sure exactly when I bought it but I think it was around July or something before I began with my studies in medicine. Since then I’ve used it many, many hours; it’s been running pretty much day and night for all those years and used extensively.

If you’d see the shape it’s in now the usage is also definitely not a surprise; the keyboard is messy beyond the point of cleaning no matter how hard you’d scrub, the screen has tape on it since opening and closing it all those times created cracks in the back of the screen because it went running stuck, it’s getting hotter than ever before and cleaning out the dust is becoming less effective for that as well. Although I’m not sure on how long it would have left to live, I doubt it’ll last another two or three years.

What I personally hate the most is how frequent it starts to crash due to overheating, you can’t play a game with the thing standing on the desk anymore without it dying after a minute or 5. Instead it always has to be elevated for heat to escape better otherwise you can barely do anything with the notebook at all.

So I’ve started to look around a bit to see what’s on the market these days, it’s nice to see how the prices have definitely dropped in the past years. Where I still paid 1150 Eur for mine you can already get laptops to which you can set the same kind of demands these days for around 600-700 Eur.

The one which definitely caught my attention though is the Acer Aspire 5720G-102G25Mi, with its intel core 2 duo 1.8Ghz, 2GB DDR and Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS 256MB it offers a great set of specs. On top of that the hdd offers 250GB of storage space, although not totally needed it’s definitely a nice extra!

With such specs one thing is for certain, it’ll definitely meet all my needs of being able to be used as a system for simple office applications as well as to be used as a gaming platform. Currently the pricing lies on around 750 Eur though and seeing as to how my current notebook still works to some extent I’m hoping on seeing it go on sale with some luck in a couple of months.

Around my birthday would be nice since the regular birthday money would be a nice way to help out on the payment and of course it would also be a great time to treat yourself with a nice present, hehe. On the other hand I might also wait for the current one to truly kick the bucket and perhaps find another even better toy for a lower pricing, with them dropping in price so fast these days you’re never sure on what you’ll find next.

Have your say

Like many others I'm a slave to modern society dominated by mass media, I can be hooked on the latest series for months without missing a single episode or simply having to see a certain movie.

And if you thought music wouldn't be included there, you're dead wrong! Practically non stop I listen to music from various artists, I just can't stand the silence anymore.
