It looks like we got a double blog talkers this week, so here you go, two for the price of one!
Do you type emoticons (smilies) in your email, forum posts and blog entries? Are they useful to express and make clear your intentions or are they just too silly and cutsey?
Karen wants to know: What do you think of people who DO insert smilies in their correspondence?
I tend to do it quite frequently, if you’re present for a long time on forums I don’t think there’s a way to really go around them. Not to mention that on IM clients you can hardly avoid seeing them coming and start typing them yourself as well, since it’s an easy way to express yourself that little bit extra it can be good.
It must be added though that smilies can also be clearly misinterpreted as to what they would mean, especially the less common smilies in the west. In example “-_-” which I use as sort of a “what the?!” response, could resemble it with the “:|” used by most people here while I use “>_>” to indicate being annoyed by something. There are people which revert the meaning of those two sometimes or even who see them both as being annoyed.
When others use smilies in their correspondence I don’t really mind it, although it should hold it’s time and place of course.
What kind of people are interested in your blog?
Karen wants to know: What kinds of blogs interest you? What types of blogs would you like to see more of? Can you cite examples?
This is hard to say really, since I blog about various different subjects which lie within my interest. It could easily be though that some people only come for the items from a select group of those subjects. I guess I should ask my visitors one day through a poll why they visited my blog to get an answer to this question.
My own interest in blog is mainly blogs related to medicine (rare) and blogs which either involve drawing or CG (more common), neither of those really tend to update very frequently so it aren’t blogs which you visit very often or even bookmark. After a couple of months you’ll by chance just come across them again and hopefully there’s an update.

Popped on over from links at Blog Talkers.
I don’t have a medical blog but I post lots of info that Dr. Oz has given when he appears on Oprah. I had to link them up at my Penny Lane blog since they sit on my other blog Scribbles, where there are issues (blog).
Your blog is sure interesing. I will stop by again.

Hehe, I must say I’m not really familiar with Dr. Oz’ advice since I’m not that much of an Oprah watcher :P. But the lack of medical blogs is quite understandable though, many just don’t have the time for it and asides from that what I see of the doctors educating me they barely know how to handle a computer so let stand run a blog :P.
And thanks, always nice to know someone enjoys your blogging :).

hey, the less medical blogs exist, the higher your chances to become famous in this field of blogging
I’m not using smileys in my articles, at least I try to avoid them as much as possible. Instead I use them in my comment replies
btw. any idea what ‘-_- actually means? I’m using it to express something along the line of “oh my god…”.

With the ‘ sign next to it I guess you’d write it in international “emoticons” as , so I guess you could indeed say oh my god there or any other form of that.
And hehe, yeh, who knows :P. Although I’m still quite a couple of years away from becoming a doctor, but I guess even as med student I’m still one of the few. Currently there’s not too much medical related entries though but I’m gonna change that soon :).

I am guilty of using emoticons, but like you think there is a time & place. My entry is online now too. I did not know #40 was already online. Cheers!

Hehe, I think something went wrong with the placing online of the entries on blogtalkers. Number 40 appears to have been taken offline again now :).
