Please tell us: What story is on the front page of your local newspaper? Do you think the event is worthy of front page coverage?

I can’t recall exactly what the main page was about but luckily the “Metro” is freely available to be read online as well, so let’s have a look at it again.

Freely translated it’s the article “Dutch sex tourist has nothing to fear”, now for the people which are unaware of what sex tourism is it’s basically the act of going abroad for the purpose of sex, mainly with younger (read underaged) girls. With this you can think of countries like the Philippines, Malaysia, etcetera.

In case of the article the country which it concerns is Cambodia, many of the arrested sex tourists there manage to get out of the country without any form of penalty and when back in their home country their is little to nothing done about the fact that they had sex with children.

It also states that by estimation 20% of the tourists which Cambodia receives are looking for sex, meaning that for the locals it’s an interesting deal to trade their kids of for sexual abuse in exchange for money.

Worthy of the front page?

To be honest it’s not really news, it’s like placing on the front page that there’s a war going on in Iraq or that there’s a situation of hunger in Africa. It’s just not really anything new, it’s been known for years by just about everybody that stuff like this happens.

It’s a good thing though to bring it to the attention of the public once more, but I doubt it’ll lead to a real change anytime soon.

  1. ” With this you can think of countries like the Philippines, Malaysia, etcetera. ”

I am so sad that my countries feature outside is like this.. I would like also to inform you guys that Manila , Philippines can also be featured as the source of well educated people..But the reality this sex tourism really happening in our contry and it really sucks.

  2. That goes for the other countries with sex tourism as well although those just stick a lot less to mind. Let’s hope the sex tourism will be brought to an end one day or introduced in a legal, adult only form allowing the world to truly get a look at the rest of those countries.

Have your say

Like many others I'm a slave to modern society dominated by mass media, I can be hooked on the latest series for months without missing a single episode or simply having to see a certain movie.

And if you thought music wouldn't be included there, you're dead wrong! Practically non stop I listen to music from various artists, I just can't stand the silence anymore.
