It was time once again to go back into the school benches or whatever you’d like to call them and start picking up classes. With the third year having officially started I suppose the relaxing I could do during the summer period in the last weeks is as good as over for a while.
At first we had to suffer the usual introductionary talk on:
- How much time you should spend on classes
- How much of the practical sessions you should follow
- Which things are mandatory
- How many hours you should spend on assignments
- And last but not least, that you should spend 16 hours of weeks reading as self-study
That basically got said in a period of 45 minutes with some time also being devoted to this “wonderful” new system which has been introduced to “speed” the administrative and communicationary process towards the students up. So now, rather than having a single medium which would hold a forum, grades and announcements we have 3 separate media for each. How about keeping things central, right?
When that was finally over though the real classes could start, I suppose I could just as well have slept an hour extra if it wasn’t for the fact though that the rooms are to small so you’d end up sitting in an additional room watching at the classes being displayed on a screen.
The first semester we’re getting though is going to focus on the reproduction system and what can go wrong in it, compared to the previous semesters we’ve gotten so far there are some “major” changes being made to how it’s going to be set up.
Rather than getting 4 exams it’s reduced to 3 exams over a period of 6 weeks each, now this of course is a bummer since it means there’s more studying to do for a single exam. Asides from that though the way it’s all being built up appears to be a lot more logical, no longer spreading anatomy apart from physiology and ethology but giving it all at once whenever it is of concern. Or at least that’s what we’ve been told, now of course it’s to see how this ends up in practice. But having it split up before definitely was quite annoying since you ended up spending more time on studying additional stuff which actually got covered in the blocks ahead rather than focusing on what you were getting now simply because they dragged a bunch of terms in you never heard of and which were to be explained later. Not to mention than when it actually was later it wouldn’t be too uncommon to hear you already had it.
Like the beginning of last year there’s quite some mandatory stuff again, a couple this year though are assignments which don’t appear to be too bad. You sort of have to imagine standing in someone else’s shoes for those and think of what it would be like to have made someone pregnant unwanted, be homosexual, etcetera.
The other mandatory part are practical sessions, which apparently couldn’t be stuffed into classes. Now of course it’s to wait and see what that’ll be all about but usually if that’s the case we end up playing some kind of messed up little theater or doing some so called discussing where most of us simply agree with each other on pretty much all of it so we start having to take in thought up standpoints.
Luckily the first day didn’t last too long though, just a couple of hours. The bus ride back and forth probably didn’t differ much from the time I actually spent in useful classes, lucky for me though I didn’t forget to bring my iPod along so I could listen to some music along the way and doze half off.
On that matter though the iPod is sort of acting up a bit weird, I guess pretty much like iTunes is being kinda weird as well. Where as iTunes doesn’t really know the alphabet and places one artist which starts with an A in front of AND after another artist which starts with the letter D the iPod apparently finds it funny to place artists in duplicate (or some even 5 times) without there being any difference in name, not even trailing spaces or whatsoever. They even all contain the same albums and tracks like it’s just on there multiple times, guess I should check out once why it’s doing that.
It’s back to reading now for me though, got some stuff to read for tomorrow so let’s just get that over with while it’s still early.
