The Efteling is one of the main theme parks in the Netherlands for those who don’t know. I went there yesterday with my girlfriend to spend a nice day out and that’s exactly what it ended up to be, I’m sure she agrees on that too.

In the beginning it was a bit messed up because it began to rain quite a bit, not really what you want to see after waking up at about 6 so you can be there when the park opens. We bought some ponchos though to keep us dry and after a couple of hours there was pretty much no rain left.

Of course we went to see pretty much all of the rides, let’s see which I can recall us still doing:

  • Fata Morgana - A little boat ride through an Arabian fantasy styled “city”.
  • Piranha - Wild water raft, went in there a couple of times and ended up quite wet from time to times, not too much luckily seeing as to how the weather wasn’t too great.
  • Bob sleds - This was quite a fun ride, a combination between bob sleds and a roller coaster. We ended up going in a couple of times and could pretty much just walk straight into it at all times.
  • Pegasus - One of the original roller coasters, made out of wood. We went into this one once as well, myself I’d already seen this one countless of times before as well.
  • Python~ - The other one of the original coasters, this one made out of steel, offering what you would expect a coaster to have from loops to corkscrews. [Note: The ~ symbol is placed to avoid some unexpected issues with wordpress]
  • Vogelrok - One of the newer roller coasters, going over the track in complete darkness we ended up doing this one about three times during which we made the most photo genetic pictures one could imagine. If it was about looking like Neanderthals or rodents, we’ve done it pretty much all.
  • The flying Dutchman - Probably the best roller coaster currently in the Efteling, not only the ride itself here is an attraction but the queue along can be counted as one as well. The queue is built up like a fantasy styled city in the dark ages with a great eye for detail, definitely a lot to look at whilst waiting for the ride and it actually was also about the only attraction for which we actually had to wait. The ride itself was great as well, combining a roller coaster with both tracks on steel and going through water, if you were unlucky enough you could end up nice and wet when stepping out.
  • Villa Volta - Starting out as a form of a “tour” in a haunted house during which you get some background info you will be guided towards the main room in which you are actually placed inside the haunted house. Myself I’ve already been in it countless of times and quite knew the deal of how it worked although my girlfriend was quite lost on whether it was the benches or room moving, she couldn’t quite get a grip of it.
  • Dreamflight - Another quite new attraction which I hadn’t seen before, whilst sitting in a little carriage hanging under the rails you were lead through some sort of fantasy world. Although it was nicely set up it wasn’t too spectacular I’d say.
  • Spookslot - “Most boring” according to my girlfriend and I must agree, not much more to say about it.
  • Pandadream - A 3D movie with some nice effects going along in the room as well, basically showing how us humans are affecting nature. The theme of the movie could have been better I say, although it was nice.
  • Carnaval Festival - Something every Dutchie must have seen, a traditional ride in the Efteling in which you see puppets from various nations all around the world dance and play music with one of the most famous Efteling tunes in the background.
  • Boat ride, train ride and viewing tower - A couple of last rides we did which are mainly just aiming towards viewing the scenery of the park and in which you can just sit back and relax for a while. It also gave my girlfriend the chance to finally see we got some forests here as well.

Overall we had quite a nice day out together in the Efteling, even though it started out with rain it didn’t matter much because probably thanks to that the park wasn’t flooded with people meaning we could just walk through on most rides without having to wait in line.

We will definitely be going to some of the other major theme parks in the area as well at other times, let’s see what cool new rides those will be having to offer.

Eventually at about 7 after eating some we decided to head back homeward, we still had some trip ahead of us which was going to take up to nearly 3 hours in total so the day wasn’t over just yet. As we eventually came home we were pretty much exhausted I must say.

Have your say
