FirstI have mentioned before that I started drawing a while ago, but never had the chance to really show any of my stuff since I didn’t have a good web cam which would be capable of making clear pictures and the medion scanner was too messed up to even work with windows 2003.

This morning though I found my dads digi-cam so I simply used that in order to make some pictures of my work from start till now. Definitely can’t show all and well yeh, not like it’s that nice all to see anyways but I have picked out 3 of the pieces which in some way show my progress over time.

First on the right you can see what it all started out with, the people which have followed the drawing the human figure from your mind videos might recognize it as the first session on that set of video tutorials.

From this point as you might imagine there’s a lot which still has to be done, you can’t even call this human no matter how you’d look at it.

After this I learned on how to draw each bone of the human figure in a quite basic manner, so far from ideal but it’s a start. I will in the future definitely work on this of course to get into more detail, but so far it’s been just about 50 days ago I started and well yeh, have my studies to do as well after all.

Skeleton There are quite some issues in my drawing which overall should still be improved, in example as you can see on the skeleton there are size differences on the sides which make it look out of balance and proportion. Definitely something to work on as I move ahead.

For the more detailed pieces like the skeleton on the side I should also improve my linework a lot, make it less sketchy and the details more speaking or how to say.

There’s a lot of errors which should be corrected as well, in example the lumar vertebrae as they already have to go with detail also have a twitch in them. As a living person I probably wouldn’t want that to happen in my body.

The radius and ulna also look a bit messy, it’s a bit hard to draw the weird way of turning they make I think. In this picture I sort of worked my way out of this by aligning the pink to the elbow so they wouldn’t turn over each other but still something to work on for in the future if I’d want to keep on improving.

The femur, patella, tibia and fibula all look quite weird as well. In the video tutorials the bones have sort of been flew through quickly as not that important to know exactly how to draw since it focuses on learning how to draw the human figure rather than the exact anatomical forms. Myself I’m quite interested in the anatomical forms though so I will end up doing a lot of bone studies as well in the future.

Face side

To finish things off I’m currently learning on how to draw the muscles, the face has quite a lot of errors going on which my girlfriend was nice enough to point out; forehead being too small, distance between upper teeth and nose being too big, the jaw being too big in comparison with the rest of the skull. To that I can add that the muscles around the mouth are quite messed up as well as I first drew it as if the mouth wasn’t open whilst I already drew the jaw lowered down.

Well, you’d have to be blind to say there’s no more improvement to be made. There’s still a lot which I have to work, but I hope to be able to update a bit more frequent from now on as I have a cam available. It’ll be interesting to see what sort of progress I’ll have made in another 50 days from now again :).

So far I’m still quite enjoying doing it, and compared to what I began out with I must say that I made quite some improvement, hehe.

Feels kinda good to give you critizism for once instead of getting for my drawings :P
    Love you^^

  2. Haha, ok, so nose and eye to add to the list as well ;). But just you wait a year and I’ll have surpassed you by far :D.

  3. sure sure ;), but well you did learn some in like some days :P

  4. Thanks :), hope to be learning a lot more still.

Have your say

Like many others I'm a slave to modern society dominated by mass media, I can be hooked on the latest series for months without missing a single episode or simply having to see a certain movie.

And if you thought music wouldn't be included there, you're dead wrong! Practically non stop I listen to music from various artists, I just can't stand the silence anymore.
