Google to take over CIA’s role?

Nearly 2 years ago Google introduced search history, a service currently still in beta stage but which I have been using for quite some time already. Search history was already something quite controversial because it logged searching activity directly to an account. Because you could never know whether Google did this already or not anyways, not much changed by activating it and I quite quickly reached using it for a year.

Now about 8 months after that date they have introduced a new feature to this. Tracking not just your search history but by installing the Google toolbar you can now also have the option to register your internet activity to your account. Myself I have ditched using the Google toolbar long ago already because it would be too easy for Google to log your internet activity like that, and to be quite honest I’d say that is not so much their business. Many back then said I was paranoid and Google didn’t log anything, but I suppose Google today gave me my right, or at least they started logging at some point.

It is a bit tricky if you ask me to let Google log your activity like this, even if they’re making it public to you optionally you might never know how they log it when you simply use the toolbar. It sort of makes privacy fade away, and sort of makes you think about what you see the CIA and similar government agencies do in the films.

Myself I’ll be passing out on using this new feature of search history, just some random person has to get into your Google account and pretty much everything about your online activity would directly be visible and could be made public. It would all just become too easy if you ask me.

  1. Hi Psycho Dude - Thanks for visiting my blog and left a comment. I didn’t know that the Netherlands produces a lot of peanut!

  2. Hi again, I misread something about the peanut. Have to say that I had a late night so I feel really sleepy today…

Have your say

Like many others I'm a slave to modern society dominated by mass media, I can be hooked on the latest series for months without missing a single episode or simply having to see a certain movie.

And if you thought music wouldn't be included there, you're dead wrong! Practically non stop I listen to music from various artists, I just can't stand the silence anymore.
