It has been a year ago already that I signed up for last.fm with my very own little profile, since then I have listened to quite a lot of music it seams. Although my listening has gone down a bit after the summer holidays it has shown as well, but I guess that speaks for itself. Whereas it took me till just August last year to reach 20.000 tracks played, I am currently after an entire year on 51.439.
I must say I completely missed the 50k tracks played milestone unfortunately so I haven’t got a clue on what exactly my 50.000th track has been unfortunately, but my guess goes on either a song by Nightwish or something from the RO2 OST.
In this year of last.fm quite a lot has been changed to the service as also became apparent in my review of last.fm in 2006, but I must say it’s focus remained quite clear. Building up a musical profile and having the chance to get in touch with people with similar tastes if you want to. Myself I’m not all that much into the community aspect of last.fm though, asides from being active on the forums every now and then.
It is a shame though that the last.fm client doesn’t offer a 64 bit linux support from what I’ve seen, so I’m forced to use Amorak on my laptop. I’d say that is something they should work on in getting ready to go. Perhaps there might be some technical work-around to get it running anyways but it simply should come right out of the box if you ask me, especially with the great popularity they are getting.
They have even already signed a deal with Warner Music, the 4th largest music company, in order to be able to play their music on the last.fm radio and are also in talks with the top 3 record companies. If they get that deal through you’ll probably be able to listen to just about any song on their last.fm radio if you ask me, which of course is a great thing.
It’ll be interesting to see where they’ll be heading, but even more interesting will it be to see in what way my musical interest will change. Currently Nightwish is still running strong on number 1 position with over 7.000 tracks played :).
