As some who’ve been reading my blog for a while might know I’m quite fond of statistics, this of course just had to include the amount of page views Slevi is getting as well. Back in the days I have already passed 2.000 and 10.000 views, but the counter is still going on. Because I never really did anything more with it then just letting it log visitor info, I also never really had a chance to get a quick overview of valuable statistics like referrers, countries, search queries, etcetera.
On my previous hosting I was quite lazy and just used aw stats to check these sort of statistics, unfortunately with my current hosting that is no longer an option. So to beat this I have installed firestats, a statistics system which can be integrated into wordpress but used as stand-alone as well.
Although it does not show used search queries, you can pick them out of the referral listing it shows. I must say that some search queries have been quite surprising on how they lead to me:
- “dna sequencing for diagnostics” on Google.com gives me as first hit, out of just 2 hits though but still. The sentence is not all the uncommon if I in example take a look at my textbooks, on the net though it appears to be quite rare.
- flyff getting rich on Bellsouth - AT&T websearch. I must say I didn’t even know of the existence of that search engine, let stand how ridiculous the query is. It gives me a fifth place ranking. But then I actually noticed the power by google logo, so I decided to give it a try. You know what, I actually ended up on 10th position there as well. And that for writing about FlyFF like once?
- digirev net on Google.com, giving me a 4th position as well. Now this isn’t all too surprising though as it was the name this blog had before it got renamed into Slevi. But still it was quite funny to see how by Google Slevi got linked to a name it hasn’t used anymore for around 7 months already.
- Vilppu drawing manual on Yahoo places me on the 8th page, yet somebody actually visited my site through that. That is quite interesting to see because myself I usually am quite lazy and would never browse through to the 8th page or even the 5th in a lot of occasions unless it’s image search, but it sort of showed that some people actually do that and being listed on the later pages can actually bring some visitors to your site as well.
These were just a couple of people coming in through search queries, for some reason a lot of people simply find myself through searching on Google for god knows what. I guess it is partially due to my writing about god knows what as well, so many different subjects are being covered that slowly for pretty much every single search you make Slevi is going to be ending up somewhere in the results.
I suppose I’m simply the chaotic type of guy ;).
