Kareem Amer, an Egyptian blogger, has been sentenced to 4 years of jail time today under the charges of insulting the Islam and the Egyptian president Mubarak. According to Kareem Amer freedom of speech wasn’t present in Egypt, a country which tries to call itself democratic every now and then. Upon writing on the lack of freedom and speech and comparing Egypt to a dictatorship the government apparently wasn’t so happy about this.

I guess his arrest and verdict are the ultimate proof that freedom of speech definitely isn’t present in Egypt and the government can simply slam people into jail at wish. Worldwide there has been a great amount of protest against this over the past few months but it looks like judgment is made final today.

As a firm believer in freedom of speech I think this is absolutely ridiculous to see happening, I think it definitely is time for the international community to take a stance against Egypt and do something about this.

Have your say

Like many others I'm a slave to modern society dominated by mass media, I can be hooked on the latest series for months without missing a single episode or simply having to see a certain movie.

And if you thought music wouldn't be included there, you're dead wrong! Practically non stop I listen to music from various artists, I just can't stand the silence anymore.
