Now, doesn’t he look great? Not really, but it was a nice practise doing a first polygon model again. The design of the alien was really weird though, it even was supposed to have fins on the side of his head. Makes me think it is more of a seamonster rather than an alien. Since I have never done bodymodelling that much in the past, just a couple of times to create some new models for Unreal Tournament, that on itself was already a nice training.

As you can see though…. I still got a lot to work on :), he looked so nice and plastic when he was finished, so I topped that off by giving him an even more plastic appearance with an antistropic material. The disc did give a nice overview of Maya in some way, when it comes to polygon modelling finding my way around faster again and being able to create something in a more structured way. Overall it is a pretty good intro disc and a nice step onto the next, I’ll still have to choose which I will pick next but that’s something I’ll be doing later on today.

Discussion on this Article

  1. It’s interesting how your modeling of this alien even with the alien (or should I say monster like) features still has hands and feet and overall an anatomy that resembles ours.

I have a keen interest in things alien so it’s always so obvious (here and in the movies) when I see how we impose our own experience on how an alien would look.

  2. In this case that is mainly due to the guide I followed used this sea-monster type of thing to work from, myself I like to see aliens as less humanoid forms so once I’ll truly start doing things myself and it’ld involve aliens they most likely will stop having 2 hands and feet.

Have your say

Like many others I'm a slave to modern society dominated by mass media, I can be hooked on the latest series for months without missing a single episode or simply having to see a certain movie.

And if you thought music wouldn't be included there, you're dead wrong! Practically non stop I listen to music from various artists, I just can't stand the silence anymore.
