Since it’s been a while I’ve actually touched Maya I am doing a nice freshup course for myself and starting off from the complete beginning, slowly going through different courses and getting familiar with the 3D development software again. I will be doing this by training DVD’s I have gathered over time from various different resources, starting off with the very basics being shown in 3D Trainer - Maya beginner and beyond.
Although it is not the first time working with Maya, it has been quite a while and the refreshening definately is needed, asides from that I never truly used it perfectly or even close to that, creating quite a big mess resulting in sloppy models. Now that I will be taking the time for it, I am wanting to do things right.
The first subjects I have done till now have been quite repetitive though to what I already knew; covering the project set, user interface, navigation, primitives, tool box, colors, lights and animation. Although I must say I did not recall all the function locations and such, so in some way the disc did help. It’s more the real basics though for never having worked with Maya before at all.
Explenation on the disc is done quite well though, so I probably will go through it quickly. Definately a good thing, it is somewhat a shame though that the menu for the disc is just a html page, would have expected a bit more, but ofcourse that’s not the real focus of the disc. In the end it is quite a good set of tutorials and I will keep you updated on how the rest of the disc goes.
On a sidenote: Once I get to creating some more than just primitives I will also start posting some screenshots of my work, giving the lot of you an idea of what I am doing and what these discs can help you with creating.
