Anyone who studies knows how stressful this can be from time to time, today though this wasn’t the case. For some reason all went realy smooth; for one the classes I had today, even though I missed yesterday’s classes, were easily to understand. The second was a bit boring though, mainly due to the professor which spoke in an extremely slow and dull way. I guess you could define him as one of those typical old school professors, which you can laugh about if you see him in a movie but if you’re getting classes from one an hour suddenly appears to be lasting days.
It’s still a bit disatisfying though that I missed yesterday’s classes, although from what I heard it weren’t the best classes of the semester it would still have been good for the studying of my upcoming exam. The workers at public transport though did have some valid reasons to strike so it wasn’t completely unimaginable why they did it. Luckily they did it yesterday and not Friday, if that was the case I would have been required to pay an extensive amount on a cab in order to get there.
At the moment I’m reading over the items of today and the past several weeks for a while, it’s already later on the day so I’ll probably go for another hour or two; the subject is interesting so this won’t be that much of a problem. In example today we got a more detailed explenation on how immunofluorescence works, although I already knew something about it this definately was a nice teaching. For one how it could be used to diagnose certain forms of leukemia within just a couple of hours, allowing treatment to begin just hours after the patient came in, instead of having to wait days or even weeks as it was in the past.
Asides from this the following items were also dealt with today:
- DNA sequencing for diagnostics in hematopoietic diseases
- Relations between viruses and cancer
- Helicobacter pylori and stomach cancer
It was a bit dissapointing though that in the relation of viruses and cancer HPV was completely skipped and nothing was mentioned about the new vaccine, although some students do follow the latest findings and will definately know about the HPV vaccine to reduce the chance of cervical cancer, but the past has shown out that when a professor has pointed out findings of a study which were widely presented a lot of students were completely surprised and read nothing about it.
I’ll now be gonna get back into my books and do some last studying for the day, tomorrow and especially Thursday I will be doing the last reading over and work by the last several items. Also ofcourse repeating the already studied material will be of importance.
