HPV, causing 70~80% of all cervical cancer and genital warts, can since a while be treated by a vaccin which has been developed in the last couple of years. First this vaccine was released in the US after being approved by the FDA, but now it has also been licensed in the EU. For 195 pounds girls, but also boys, in the UK will be able to get themselves vaccinated over a period of 6 month. In case of the boys it would be meant to prevent spread of HPV.
The money might appear to be a lot for many, but you must keep in mind that you are talking about preventing a form of cancer which affects a huge amount of women. 195 Pounds to prevent dying, or even getting cervical cancer due to HPV shouldn’t even be something to think twice about if you ask me.
What the vaccine will cost in the other EU countries has not been stated in the articles I could find, nor do I know whether it will be taken as part of national vaccination plans if they are performed in your country, but I do think this will be the case.
