Or at least when you’re going to university, college, high school or any other form of education. For me it’ll all be starting again next Monday, so I got the weekend as my last days off. Gonna pick up my books along then and start studying again on like a daily basis.
Along with schools starting, it is also the third month on DigiRev, or not actually, but the third month title adding to the archives. It adds by pretty quick I must say, the days are just flying by as if it is nothing. Also I notice that on DigiRev I have posted much more than I have done on any former blog, currently already on a total of 34 entries.
Asides from these nice facts I have reinstalled photoshop and illustrator, been playing around with this a bit again and started getting some nice results already. Kinda been playing around with that web aggregator of mine. Also been picking up my AJAX a bit more and it work out pretty nicely. Currently I am creating an AJAX treeview in example and I must say that it does make testing the site a lot more comfortable as well, since it takes off loading times of pages.
Although some people are totally against it cause of all the Web2.0 crap, I do think that it does actually contain some good things. Or perhaps contain isn’t really the right word here, but you’ll probably get what I mean. I won’t go calling it web2.0 though, it’s just like another phase after something new has become possible and started spreading out a bit. Just like in the old days HTML at all was new and we basically got the web like we know it, it started spreading out. Then javascript got added, spreaded out. Server side languages got added, spreaded out. Etc, it just kept on spreading out as it was used more frequently and an increasing amount of web developers started using it.
Ofcourse it would be nice to come up with something new yourself and a lot of people tell you to do that, but it’s a pretty much impossible thing to do. Even if you create something, never seen on any website before, chances are slim that it’ll actually be even recognized as something you came up with as soon as major sites come with it as well. Funny thing is how that happens and people might even end up saying your style is just a ripoff, whilst if any of that would be true, it would be the other way around.
The problem just lies in the fact that a lot of things done are pretty simple, like the entire AJAX deal, it’s pretty obvious that something like that comes in handy and the approach has been used for a long time already even before it got named AJAX.
But even the most common thing on the web probably, content management systems. They all resemble eachother pretty much, there’s news, membership, memeberlist, member profile, archive, etc. You know the deal, it’s not just all one big rip off of eachother, it’s just the obvious thing which is required. Messing with it just isn’t worth it since it’ll only create a mess.
Just like with good layout designs, the actual design of a site if ripped off and ‘modified’ will just about always get worse as well. And it’s a shame to see that happen to people which just simply wanted to create something unique.
Enough preaching for today now though, I suppose even half of it didn’t make sense to the lot of you. Besides that I still have to work on some things as well, so cannot spend too much time into writing on my blog :).
